DaklaPack as a reliable packaging partner for sustainable startup Coffee Goddess

For Vera Miftari (owner Coffee Goddess), having her own coffee brand was always a dream. In 2023 she took the plunge, realizing the packaging for the coffee beans was one of the many challenges in setting up the venture. Read more about how the open collaboration with DaklaPack ensured that these specialty products came to market in luxury boxpouches.

With a pure love for coffee, Vera has created several of her own blends as the foundation for Coffee Goddess' product line. They also sell single origins by country. All coffee beans are available in two sizes of stand-up pouches. These are filled by hand after roasting. The personal care and attention put into the products certainly had to be reflected in their packaging.

Sustainable and resealable boxpouches for coffee

As a start-up, Coffee Goddess wanted to be future-oriented immediately and make the right choice about packaging. A more traditional foil packaging was considered at first. But coffee beans are ethically sourced and it makes pure sense that the final choice, on the advice of DaklaPack, fell on sustainable packaging that optimally protects the contents.

Vera: "I wanted to offer beautiful, high-quality products that satisfy customers. And not only the coffee, but also the packaging must be great and extend the shelf life. Its appearance contributes to our high-quality line, it is a part of the experience for each consumer. That's why our packaging reflects the products they contain."

The freshness of the coffee beans is guaranteed by a strong grip closure, sealed top with easily removable header and the valve that only lets out air from the bag. The resealability allows Coffee Goddess customers to store the coffee beans properly and thus enjoy them for longer. This was a conscious decision, as drinking coffee can be a special moment and the beans certainly don't need to be finished in one go.

The boxpouch has a custom-designed foil print with light colours and the packaging is made of recyclable mono-material. Their entire product line has a luxurious look. After cutting out the one-way valve, which is made of hard plastic and a small piece of metal, the bag can be disposed of in plastic waste for recycling.

Erik-Peter Beumer (Senior Account Manager at DaklaPack): "During the introduction, I gave a tour and showed different packaging options and materials. By asking lots of questions, it becomes clear what a customer truly needs. Our innovation team made samples to make the end result more tangible. I also connected Vera with two other parties from my own network to help them further develop their product line."

Selling coffee in suitable packaging

Boxpouches are an ideal packaging solution for dry products such as coffee, tea, muesli, superfoods and protein powder. The bottom is completely flat and the side gussets maximize the volume of the bag without taking up much extra space. The packaging is therefore very suitable for a robust and professional presentation on a shelf or flat surface. In addition, side gussets make it possible to add extra information or branding elements to the bag itself.

Vera: "Whether or not to add text on the bag is a conscious choice. There is a label on the packaging with a QR-code that can be scanned and leads to our website with additional information. This allows us to tell customers everything about the specialty coffee beans. Where they come from, how they have been processed, what type of coffee and what variety it is. Traceability and transparency is very important."

A sparring partner almost around the corner

Coffee Goddess and DaklaPack are only a ten-minute drive from each other. The first contact was made from this practical point of view, but cooperating soon became very pleasant and low-threshold. Together, we worked towards a targeted goal: packaging with a chic look and optimal protection for the coffee beans. The beautiful result is due to expertise, perseverance and enthusiasm.

Vera: "In the end it's all about the product, but the packaging is a big part of it. With so many design possibilities, at some point you have to let it go. That’s possible if a specialist, who you trust, gives good advice. I like to look someone in the eyes and make informed decisions. The personal, helpful approach and quick turnaround is incredibly nice for us. We’ve been assisted on all fronts by DaklaPack."
